Celebrating Hermosa Creek Protection Act

Dear Editor:

We are writing to voice our gratitude for the hard work of our Representative Scott Tipton and Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Udall in the passage of the Hermosa Creek Watershed Protection Act this past December.

We are celebrating the protection of 38,000 acres of land as wilderness and 70,000 acres of land as a Special Management Area along with our neighbors in Durango. Our Congressmen championed this locally-grown effort that included broad support from over 150 local businesses, sportsmen, mountain bikers, off-road-vehicle users, ranchers and farmers, the Chamber of Commerce, snowmobilers, the water district, elected officials, and conservation organizations.

Our Congressmen’s partnership with the Durango community serves as an example of balanced, collaborative, and effective public land protection. We are grateful to see our Congressmen joining local communities in recognizing the immense value that clean water, healthy wildlife, continued grazing, and world-class recreation hold for our economy and quality of life here in western Colorado.

Please join us in thanking Mr. Bennet, Mr. Udall, and Mr. Tipton for their efforts to protect the wild places that make this state such a special place to live. We hope that they will continue this important work.

Sincerely,
