Little Pass Creek trail is proposed along a Wilderness addition to the current West Elk Wilderness and Special Management Area in the GPLI proposal for its important wildlife habitat, recreational value, and scenic beauty.
We will start at the Swampy Pass Trailhead at the base of Ohio Creek Road. The trailhead is at 9,043 feet in elevation and the trail climbs steadily. This area is an especially scenic one through aspen groves and views of the incredible geological rock features known as the Castles.
In total, the trail will be 8 miles round trip. We plan on being out until early in the afternoon, so please come prepared with hiking gear, water, lunch, sunscreen, insect repellent, rain jacket, and anything else you need. We will meet at 8:30 am in the Mochas parking lot in Gunnison to carpool to the trailhead.
