Walrod's Wildflowers and Caves

  • 4-Way/Visitor's Center 601 Elk Avenue Crested Butte, CO, 81224 United States (map)

Walrod Gulch meanders across a southern-facing slope in the Cement Creek Valley. Catching the warmest sun in the spring, Walrod is the perfect spot for the season’s first wildflowers. The Gunnison Public Lands Initiative has proposed this area for conservation, hoping to protect the area’s prime wildlife habitat and excellent trails.

We’ll talk about what permanent protection could mean for this area and what we can do as a community of naturalists to protect the places we love. The pace of this hike will be moderate but the trail begins with a steep climb out of Walrod Gulch.

The effort is worth it – we’ll be rewarded some of the most delicate wildlfowers and sweeping views! Kids 12+.
